Barbershop Game Complete

Today I finished all of the actionscript for the game. There were a few problems but I managed to solve them all. I also edited and added the sound for the game. The music in the background really gives it a 'classic barbershop' crossed with a 'trendy game' feel that works really well.

Visual Prototype

This is the visual style I have decided on for my game. The face is created half from photos and half from blurs of colour. It gives the face a blank canvas in regards to facial hair. The icons have a 'gel' feel to them which is common to games. This was to give the game a slightly cartoonish feel. This would work well with a humorous back story which I would like to implement as some stage but I am just creating a demo of this game to take to games companies when I apply for jobs. This will show my originality with ideas for games concepts and my interest in exploring visual styles.

Barbershop Research

Today I researched traditional barbershop methods. The main aspect of this is using a small razor without a barrier to shave extremely close. My game should incorporate this idea. If the player is inaccurate with the blade, the customer should get cut and the player should be penalised. My research also gave me the idea of using shaving foam to obscure the player's accuracy.

Ideas

Today I was thinking about how lately video games often seem to feature character customisation. I have seen players spend long amounts of time perfecting their virtual characters. To me, it seems to be a form of vanity. This got me thinking about male gamer's vanity. I did a little research into this and feel it would be fun to make a game about male vanity. One major thing men are vain about is their hair. I thought it would be fun to reflect this by making a game about obscure facial hair styles. The best setting for this would be a salon or barbershop.
